This is an opportunity to attend presentations of interest, network with other families, view our gallery265 art exhibition and browse our vendor fair of information and services available to you and your family. Our annual FREE event will take place at Arc of Westchester’s Gleeson-Israel Gateway Center, 265 Saw Mill River Road, Hawthorne, NY 10532. Complimentary continental breakfast will be served and a pizza lunch will be available for purchase.


We will be offering six seminars that will address many issues that are of interest and importance to you and your family. Experts in the field from the county and state will present these seminars.


SEMINAR #1:  Guardianship Changes & Solutions - 10:00 a.m. - 10:45 a.m.
Learn about the proposed changes in 17A guardianship and possible solutions currently under review by the Governor’s Office, the New York State Legislature and advocates. Experts in the field from NYSARC and Arc of Westchester will head up the panel discussion.

SEMINAR #2:  Graduation Options: New Credentials Available - 10:00 a.m. - 10:45 a.m.
Overview of new High School Graduation requirements will be shared byrepresentatives of Putnam/Northern Westchester BOCES.

SEMINAR #3:  OPWDD’s Front Door Process  - 11:00 a.m. - 11:45 a.m
Front Door is a new process for authorizing NYS Office for People With Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) services. This important seminar will guide you with what has changed and what you need to know.

SEMINAR #4:  Preschool: The First Steps - 11:00 a.m. - 11:45 a.m.
Learn about community resources for families of preschool children on the autism spectrum including recreation, support groups, technology, medical and in home behavior support.

SEMINAR #5:  Ready for Employment? Learn about Acces-VR - 12:30 p.m. - 1:15 p.m.
Learn about the individualized person center planning approach by Acces-VR and Arc through intensive services such as: job development, skill training, job orientation, assessments etc. in order to maximize the abilities to reach career goals.

SEMINAR #6:  Self-Advocacy - Speaking Up For Yourself! - 12:30 p.m. - 1:15 p.m.
An informative session led by self-advocates from the Self-Advocacy Association of NYS (SANYS). Learn about the importance of letting people know what you want and asking for the help that you might need to get those things. Make sure your voice is heard!
