The Manor Club Opens its Doors to Our Choices Neighborhood Program

Since August, four young ladies from our Choices Neighborhood program have volunteered at The Manor Club (TMC) in Pelham every Tuesday. This has given them an opportunity to learn employment skills and to socialize with fellow Choices group members and members of the club as well.

“For several years, Jennifer Mauro has represented The Arc Westchester ‘Choices’ program at TMC (The Manor Club). She has made a positive contribution and is so well-liked by our members that we wanted to continue and extend our relationship with The Arc. We are delighted to welcome three additional young ladies, Ana Torres, Haley Mc-Cormick Thompson, and Samantha Reina, along with their coordinator, Cathy Ortiz, to TMC and with Jennifer, will become a significant part of our Tuesday program” said Alice Dean, TMC Board President.

TMC was founded in 1913 when a group of women rescued the club (and the building,) after the previous organization began to struggle financially. Since then, the Manor Club has been a center for culture and history for its members and it’s community – providing opportunities to listen to notable speakers, see a Broadway production or even participate in a book club.

Every Tuesday, the Club hosts a luncheon for its members. Our Choices Neighborhood group assists in the preparation of these luncheons. They prepare the food, the dining area, registration, serving, and clean up.

Annette Mauro, who manages the day-to-day operations at TMC, is overjoyed to have the group involved. She says, “It presents a wonderful opportunity for these young ladies to interact with our members and for them to gain work experience and skills; but what’s really wonderful is the friendships that they develop with one another. They help and look out for one another and enjoy being together!”

“We are very grateful for our partnership with TMC and the valuable experience gained by our Choices Neighborhood group. TMC represents one of over 250 business partners we have in our Westchester Community” said Tibi Guzman, CEO and Executive Director at The Arc Westchester.

The Manor Club is holding their annual Holiday Boutique on November 2, 3, and 4. Many wonderful holiday items are on sale including special art from The Arc Westchester’s gallery265.
