Arc of Westchester’s gallery265 Artwork on Display at HSBC of Pelham

HAWTHORNE, NY, October 26, 2016—Now through November 18, patrons of HSBC of Pelham, N.Y. can enjoy a lobby art show featuring original works on loan from Arc of Westchester’s gallery265, the creative art program for people with autism and other developmental disabilities.

Arc of Westchester supports more than 2,000 individuals with developmental disabilities and their families in the county through early education, respite, day habilitation services, employment supports, residential facilities and more.

“Being involved in their community is of the upmost importance for adults supported by Arc of Westchester. Having their artwork on public display for others to see means so much to them,” says Ric Swierat, Executive Director of Arc of Westchester. “We are thankful to HSBC for demonstrating a strong commitment to our community and shining a light on our local artists.”

Four paintings from adults supported by Arc of Westchester are currently on display in the bank’s lobby. These creative works demonstrate each artist’s appreciation of composition and color, and offer a window into their unique personalities and viewpoints. Artistic expression enhances their self-esteem, promotes their sense of self and improves their overall well-being.

“We have an enormous pool of talent here at Arc of Westchester,” says Swierat. “It’s amazing what people can do if they’re just given the chance.”

Pelham residents Ralph and Annette Mauro have been longtime supporters of Arc of Westchester and are responsible for introducing HSBC to gallery265. Their daughter, Jennifer, has Down syndrome and attended Arc of Westchester’s The Children’s School for Early Development before entering Kindergarten. She is now 21 years old, has graduated from high school and is in Choices, Arc of Westchester’s program for young adults transitioning into the workforce. According to Annette, Arc of Westchester provided the foundation for Jennifer’s success and continues to support her in this new chapter of her adult life.

Arc of Westchester’s gallery265 is located at the Gleeson-Israel Gateway Center in Hawthorne, N.Y. For information on the gallery or to participate in an upcoming show, contact Regina Moore, 914.495.4573, [email protected].

HSBC of Pelham, N.Y. is located at 50 Fifth Ave., Pelham, New York 10803.
