NYSARC Trust Provides $12,500 Grant to Arc of Westchester Program

NYSARC Trust Provides $12,500 Grant to Arc of Westchester Program

HAWTHORNE, NY – November 10, 2016 - The Trustees of the NYSARC, Inc. Trust have approved a remainder fund grant of $12,500 per chapter to provide recreational opportunities for people they support. Last year, the Chapter received a similar grant from NYSARC Trust Services and plans to use the funds in the same fashion this year.  In 2016, the Chapter allocated these funds for three different initiatives that directly supported over 500 individuals. The funding allocated by NYSARC was used to support three programs directly:

  • The Spring Ball, a semi-formal dinner dance held for over 500 individuals of all ages. The Harvest Ball, a semi-formal dinner dance for 56 young adults and the Gateway Gala semi-formal dinner dance for 47 young adults. The gatherings provide age appropriate celebrations and opportunities to socialize.

  • Funds were also used to maintain a greenhouse for our “Gateway Lounge”, after work program. Individuals were able to learn how to grow plants, flowers and vegetables from seed.

  • We will have allocated funds for an Open House at the end of the year to promote all of our programs and welcome new families to our programs. to our individuals and their families.

In addition, remainder fund grants totaling $ 1,466,000 were awarded to support NYSARC guardianship programs statewide.  A total of $1,874,000 in remainder grants was awarded in 2016 to support recreation and guardianship statewide.  NYSARC Trust Services administers supplemental needs trusts that enable people with disabilities to remain in their home and community while retaining Medicaid services and other government benefits.
