Operation Sleigh Bells Brings Holiday Cheer

HAWTHORNE, NY - December 20, 2013 - The United States Secret Service and the Westchester County Police Department escorted Santa in a Presidential motorcade to Arc of Westchester's Children's School for Early Development and Arc of Westchester's Gleeson-Israel Gateway Center.

At Arc of Westchester's Children's School for Early Development, the children were thrilled to see Santa arrive with a fleet of cruisers as a helicopter hovered. Santa gave gifts to all of the children and officers brought two Labradors from the canine unit to spend time with the children.

At Arc of Westchester's Gleeson-Israel Gateway Center, representatives from the U.S. Secret Service and Westchester County Police Department answered questions from nearly eighty self-advocates with developmental disabilities and autism about personal safety. The self-advocates also enjoyed checking out the Presidential limousine and spending time with the canine unit.

Arc of Westchester is the oldest and largest agency in the county serving children, teens and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, including individuals on the autism spectrum, and their families. Over 800 employees provide more than 2,000 individuals throughout the county with a broad range of innovative and effective programs and services designed to foster independence, productivity and participation in community life.
