2018 Family Resource Day: Information and Networking

Posted on : 03/29/2018

During the month of March, The Arc Westchester hosts a day of information and resources for families in recognition of Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month. Our Annual Family Resource Day welcomed over 130 families and friends for a morning of information, guest speakers and networking.

Tibi Guzmán, Associate Executive Director/COO introduced keynote presenter James Moran, Executive Director, Care Design New York. He shared information about the shift of Medicaid Service Coordination to the NEW Care Coordination Services that will take place this summer.

Families attended three additional sessions of interest. Experts in the field presented on Supported Decision Making, an alternative to guardianship, along with a session that gave an overview about Self-Direction and some of its advantages. OPWDD (Office for People with Developmental Disabilities) held a 2-hour class for families seeking eligibility and services.

Informal technology demonstrations were held in our e-café. APPS that focused on everyday tasks for Apple, Window and Android were of interest to attendees.

Families reviewed programs and services available at The Arc Westchester and were informed about access to managed care through Partners Health Plan.

We are happy to provide educational events like this that bring families together and share information about new initiatives available to individuals with developmental disabilities. If you missed the event and would like information about any of the seminars, please contact Carin Horowitz, 914.495.4531, [email protected].
