Kicking off 2018 with a Look Inside Our Youth Connection

Posted on : 01/22/2018

All of us at Arc of Westchester are thrilled to be starting the New Year celebrating the first anniversary of our Youth Connection program! We’ve seen a great response from those we serve and the community at large, and have had more than 40 participants since the program launched.

The transition from high school to adult services can be difficult for individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities, and we are dedicated to helping make it as smooth as possible for those we serve. We have found that being able to experience adult programs alongside their peers can help with this change.

The Youth Connection Studios, conveniently located in Yonkers and Mount Kisco, offer young adults opportunities to build employment skills and experience life through community engagement. The areas we have chosen to focus on include:

  • Life skills – travel training, safety and independence, money management
  • Career exploration – volunteer opportunities, community networking, business tours
  • Social skills – building friendships and learning the skills necessary to interact in the community
  • Healthy lifestyles – food choices, exercise, yoga, arts and music
  • Technology building – using laptops, tablets, smartboards and social media, and internet safety

The Youth Connection Studios can accommodate up to 12 young adults at a time, with the goal of participants gaining independence and confidence to move on to employment or fully community-based supports.

You can sign up and receive more information by clicking here.

Youth Connection operates year-round, Monday through Friday, from 9:00 am to 3:00pm, except for certain holidays.
